STS holds its second party this time in Kings Lynn with special guests TWISTED PEAR bringing you their amazing Ableton Live set, along with our other guest Andee Mac from 'The Fuss' and our residents laying down the latest house and techno.
Twisted Pear are James Watts and David Hughes, from Norwich and Cambridge respectively. They are both 23 and have been DJing together for 10 years. Influences have been far and wide across the years from electronica (their beloved Orbital), to progressive house, trance, electro, minimal and techno.
Recently the Pear sound has evolved, taking in Techno and Electro House influences as well as Tech House and Minimal, which has found them playing a brand of big room sounds that are hard to come by locally. They have always been pushing forward, moving from a half vinyl/half digital set-up to all digital and beyond, bringing more styles into the mix, practising new tricks and trying to create a blend different from the rest of the local scene.
The current 'Pear set up features CD decks, Mixers and Laptops, along with various Midi controllers. They reached the Semi-Finals of Outline Magazine's "Dex Factor '07" and represented on the "dex" at Mustard to a great reception. 2008 was a busy year for the boys, with most of it being spent locked away in the studio at Twisted Pear HQ. The production machine roared into action with their first tune "Midnight Express" and continued with "Stop Watch". Production is now a focus with a view to the pair being signed to a label soon.
2008 ended on a big high - the guys appeared on Crackerz & Jam's Future Radio show, broadcasting an hour-long guest mix all over Norwich which was met again with an overwhelmingly positive reaction. 2009 is also the year of Twisted Pear Promotions, with the first event "DNA" @ the Mustard Lounge a big success. The Pear hosted and headlining was fellow high riser Nick Bowman.
Our other guest this month is Andee Mac. His style ranges from deep, tech house and progressive. ANDEE MAC has been djing for 10 years and in that time his music style has changed from trance at the beginning, to today playing much deeper, progressive house and techno. When playing out, you can be guaranteed the best cutting edge house tunes and he will put all of his energy into his sets, because for Andy, getting the crowd excited at what he is doing is what it is all about.
He has played for some great nights in Cambridge such as 'Future Friday Feeling', which now has a reqular spot at the Ministry of Sound in London at 'The Gallery' night. From 2007-2008 he had his own weekly 2 hour show on www.Rapturefm.co.uk, an internet based radio station in Cambridge. In May of last year he moved to Ibiza for the summer season where he played at EsParadis, Bar M, Itaca, Orange Corner, BN3, Peppers2 and put his own night on: 'Custardapple' at bar Viva.
On his return he was made resident for Techno night The fuss and with the help of Kevin Agius and Dan Bolton put on some great parties, the highlight being a Warehouse party at the back of Bar Ambition, Bury St Edmunds! He has recently started producing progressive house and techno with Music Dan, under fresh new production outfit, Future Tek.
So what's the future for Andy... well he's been getting into Traktor Pro, which he thinks will revolutionise his performances, giving him so much more flexibilty and creativity and has also recently started up his own branded night, Tek Disko.
And don't forget the usual suspect, the residents!
